Created in the 'windy bamboo' and 'wu wei' styles this full sleeve wraps from the inner arm up to the shoulder. There are more subtle, hidden elements such as boats and rock features not readily visible in this particular shot. The concept of wu wei / 無爲 is a Taoist philosophy defining a natural action, one that avoids undergoing a struggle or significant effort to complete. As a principle it conveys a positive acceptance and flow with the environment exemplified in works from Zheng Xie, Xia Gui, Shen Zhou and others covering a range of dynasties.
The artwork was freehand drawn with markers directly onto the sleeve before proceeding with the tattooing itself, a video of the sessions will be posted shortly.
